The Boone County Historical Society was organized in 1937. It is incorporated as a non-profit organization. Its membership is open to every citizen of Boone County and any other who might be interested in the County's past or present history.
The objects of the Society are...
To excite and stimulate interest in local, county and state history, believing that to place emphasis on local history, is to establish a sound foundation and appreciation of how our county became what it is today.
To encourage historical research and investigation.
To stimulate patriotism.
To collect and preserve all forms of historical matter which pertains particularly to local and county events.
To honor and commemorate birthdays of prominent citizens.
To place markers in Boone County on sites of historical interest.
To encourage the starting of scrapbooks to record present day history, confining each book to one subject (dates are essential).
To secure adequate representation from every township and from each church, school, club, lodge, or other organization in each township.
To encourage the restoration of abandoned cemeteries.
To secure the cooperation of Junior and High School students throughout the county in furthering the aims of the society.
To conduct a museum to preserve and display all items of historical interest for the benefit of present and future generations.
