Be A Volunteer
Thank you for your interest in becoming a volunteer! We appreciate people like you who donate time and talent to the community.
The Boone County Historical Museum has a wide array of volunteer opportunities available for those who are interested, including data entry, indexing, filing and becoming docents for tours. We also have special events, exhibit work and general museum maintenance. We like our volunteers to donate a couple of hours each week, more if you are available. Volunteering a few hours each week gives both you and the museum a sense of accomplishment. We need volunteers on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday. Why not come in and be a part of your museum?
The museum is not only a rewarding place to volunteer – but it is a lot of fun!
Benefits of Volunteering
*Learn new skills
*Meet others with common interests
*Feel valued and needed
*Boost your resume
*Receive tax deductions
Volunteers in the U.S. can receive tax deductions from the federal government on many costs associated with volunteering, such as travel expenses, parking, etc. The deductions apply ONLY if you are NOT getting reimbursed for these expenses by the organization you are assisting and you are itemizing on your tax form (not if you use the 1040 EZ form). If you have any other questions about this, please contact a tax professional.
